Slow down and stay

Rushing is the whole problem.

Key takeaways

  • Breathe out slow before you move, not after
  • Ask her what she wants and then listen
  • Stop treating the finish as the goal

TL;DR

Rushing is the whole problem. You last longer when you slow down and stay with her, not when you grit your teeth and try harder.

Quit racing the clock

Most men are running a clock nobody set. Hurry to the end, then check the score. That is a man alone in a room with another person.

Take the hurry out

Notice how fast you do everything else. You eat standing up. You walk to the car like it owes you money. You answer texts mid sentence. That speed does not stop at the bedroom door. It follows you in, and then you wonder why your body sprints.

So slow the whole thing down on purpose. Longer before anything begins. Hands that are not in a hurry. Breathe out instead of holding it in. Speed is a habit, and habits can be changed. Stop when you need to stop. Starting again is allowed. Nobody is timing you but you.

Stay in the room with her

Here is the part men skip. She can tell whether you are with her or managing yourself. If your head is full of monitoring and counting and bracing, you have left, and she felt you leave. That absence costs more than any minute you gained.

So come back. Look at her. Say her name. Ask what she likes and then actually do that instead of the thing you assumed. Attention is the skill. Everything else follows it.

Drop the performance

You are not auditioning. There is no judge, no score, no grade at the end. The second you make it a performance, you have made it about you, and she is now a witness instead of a partner.

Talk about it out of bed, in daylight, with your clothes on. Tell her you want to take your time. Say it plain. It is less awkward than years of silence and guessing.

Today

Tonight, put your phone in another room and spend unhurried time with her without aiming at anything.

Go deeper

Love is patient. That gets read at weddings and forgotten in the dark. But patience is not a soft virtue here. It is the practical skill that makes a man present instead of frantic. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 1 Corinthians 13:4

Boasting is a performance, and pride keeps score. Patience stays. One is about you. The other is about her. The man who becomes patient in this becomes patient everywhere, and that patience is not a technique he picked up. It is the shape he is being made into, slowly, on purpose.

Remember Yesterday

Stay in the room with her. Tonight, when you notice your mind leaving her, look at her face and stay put.

Remember Lasterday

Train to last longer. Tonight or the next time you are together, stop all movement for a slow ten count before you get close, and use the pause to touch her.

Keep exploring

Finish after she does. Tonight, ask her one specific question about what she likes and then do that thing without rushing it.
